Wound Care for Adelis!

Hello, Friends of SOAP!  Today, I’d like you to meet a patient that we have been following, Adelis.  She suffered a massive foot injury in a motorbike accident.  The skin and other tissues on the top of her left foot were completely destroyed, leaving the tendons and bone exposed.  SOAP had received a donation of a wound vacuum that was ideal for Adelis’ treatment!  A wound vac uses negative pressure to gently pull fluid from the wound over time. This can reduce swelling and may help clean the wound and remove bacteria. It also helps pull the edges of the wound together, and it may stimulate the growth of new tissue which helps the wound close.  Drs. Josef and Ani applied the wound vac, with the assistance of Dr. Josh’s daughter, Olivia.  This was a great jumpstart to Adelis’ healing!  Unfortunately, we had only received one setup for the wound vac, so when it was time to replace it, our team changed modalities.  We have been performing regular dressing changes with supplies donated to SOAP.  She still has more healing to do before she is ready for a skin graft,  but Adelis is definitely on the right track!

SOAP is so grateful for all the donations of surgical equipment and supplies we received before our trip!
