New Foot Surgery for Filomena!

Yesterday was a busy day for our SOAP team!  There were two very involved surgeries (more on that later!) that our team just finished in time to get to a dinner, hosted by the hospital administration in SOAP’s honor.  After the nice dinner, when everyone else went to bed, Drs. Bobby and Ani went back to the hospital for a third case— Filomena.  She is a lovely lady who had a broken foot that needed surgery.  This particular surgery is not one that any of the Tanzanian residents had ever seen performed!  Despite it being almost midnight, the OR was full of Tanzanian residents eager to learn a new procedure.  What an exciting opportunity for SOAP to further their education!

The teaching continued with Dr. Bobby explaining the surgery at Morning Report today, for the benefit of the residents that were not in the OR last night.

This morning, Filomena was doing well and looking forward to being discharged!

Thanks so much to all of our Friends of SOAP for supporting orthopedic education and patient care at KCMC!
