Another SOAP Surgery!

Meet Selemani. He is a young man that suffered a broken neck after a fall from a tree.

He did not have the money to pay for the surgery he needed, however, thanks to your kind donations, SOAP was able to fund his surgery!  Additionally, last week, our team was joined by Dr. Josh Patt, an Atrium orthopedist that specializes in spine orthopedics.  He and Dr. Ani (who has a special interest in spine and will be doing a fellowship in that field next year) had a fantastic opportunity to teach the Tanzanian residents during Selemani’s surgery!  It was truly standing room only (on “bleachers!”) in the OR with all the young surgeons that wanted to observe and learn throughout the case!

Selemani spent the weekend in the ICU, but I’m delighted to say that was transferred out of the ICU yesterday.

When we saw him in the ortho wards this morning, he said he was feeling “good!”

Thanks so much for giving SOAP the opportunity to help Selemani and provide an excellent learning opportunity!
