A New Drill for Alice

Allow me to introduce Alice—  an adorable 7 year old who, like so many children, broke her arm on the playground.  Drs. Josef and Ani were able to do her surgery and to teach during the case using brand new equipment!

SOAP received a new rechargeable drill, specialized for surgeries, as a donation.  We brought it over and the KCMC residents were very excited!  KCMC’s previous rechargeable drills’ batteries would no longer hold a charge.  SOAP tried to get new batteries, but the models were too old, and their batteries were no longer being made.  Luckily, SOAP was able to receive a donation of a drill with multiple attachments for different surgeries and 3 rechargeable batteries!  These are all made specifically for the OR and are designed to be sterilized between patients.  The residents have asked for a talk this week specifically on how to best use this important piece of orthopedic equipment— more on that to come!  In the meantime, Alice did well from her surgery and has been discharged from the hospital!  SOAP very much appreciates all the support we are receiving from donors!
